    Did that fix it? I got 27 hours on my 2020 LT 40 and today was sawing for a pole barn I’m building and all of a sudden the hydraulic stopped working. Shined up the copper power strip, checked with multimeter, power from battery to solenoid working, power going to the motor, but hydraulic motor doesn’t start. Everything works on the mill except for the hydraulic.

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead Годину тому

      It would, yes, but I was in a hurry and got a new motor and have the old as a spare. In your case, I'd check the actuator in the hydraulics box. I'd not think it's the motor yet, not at least for 500 plus hours.

      @@TheOldJarhead the actuator in the hydraulic box seems to be setting off the solenoid when I hit any of the levers..did the solenoid test too and its working..12 volts …..charging the battery up was down to 60 percent…maybe the battery?..it’s like 4 years old now.

      @Settlingintoalaskaliving Good chance. Was the engine running? I never run my hydraulics without it except maybe once or twice. Those motors draw a lot of power.

    I'm clueless. This is why I'm getting a knowledge base watching UA-cam videos about the ITEHIL water filter. I have to ask though. Why would you not catch the "wash Water" and refilter that to get more drinking water - - - - - The filter has already removed the particulates right? Just a thought I had to throw in here :)

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead 2 дні тому

      You certainly could, but it wouldn't speed up the ro process, which is always slower. Personally, I like this filter and have now used it a few times!

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead 2 дні тому

      One thing to consider is that the water is filtered of debris in the hybrid filter, then is filtered by the RO filter so the 'wash water' is just excess but safe to use for washing etc

    Great video! I have been watching a lot of videos as I’m thinking about building out a van and I know very little about this stuff. Based on the info you have discussed, it is obvious that I need to go with 24V/48V. Obviously in a van, space is limited so that is a constraint and I think the primary consideration is the need to run AC off grid especially if you plan to explore the SW US during most of the year and/or you are traveling with a pet. Obviously, the cost/benefit analysis would be a factor because a 48V Victron system could be over $10,000. You need to balance that with the idea that if you are out of battery power, and it is 90 out, you might have to find a campground for the night for $75 to connect to shore power. I look forward to watching your other videos to see what else I can learn!

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead 4 дні тому

      Thanks! I'd look at all options, including companies like Bateria, MorningStar, Midnight Solar etc as many are very good and less $$$ AC though is a hog so 48v is likely best. Look at BigBattery store for 48v batteries. American made so not cheap but I am impressed with their 24v mules.

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead 3 дні тому

      The trouble with a van, as I see it, is room. You'll have to do the math on the AC unit and figure out how many watts it uses and for how long you'll run it (watt hours) and then get a battery bank to support it. My research says 6hrs for a typical RV AC unit would require about 8kwh so a system like the BigBattery Mustang would probably work: bigbattery.com/products/48v-2x-mustang-kit-rv-van/ but you'd then need at least 2kw of solar which would take 4 vans or a trailer to haul. Now, if you could stuff say 1500w of solar on the roof and hook up a generator and only run the AC 6 to 8 hrs a day and plan to use hook ups where possible, it's doable but expensive.

    FedEx is the worst shipping company out there in my book. Just last week Bonnie was going out to the store and at the end of our road she found 3 packages that fell out the back of a FedEx truck. So she picks them up and calls FedEx and right off the bat they start telling her she needs to take them directly to FedEx office. Now I will tell you FedEx office is about 45/50 miles from us. So she tells them no you can send somebody out to pick them up or tell your driver that goes up and down our road every single day can stop and pick them up. They tell her that won’t work 😂😂😂 We have tried to give them to 4/5 FedEx drivers and they refuse to accept them. So the packages are still laying on our front porch for 3 weeks now. I don't think it's the Delivery Service, I think it was done in the factory or their warehouse. Strange that it was damaged in the same spot as the one you're using. As well as that was packed and padded inside that box, the damage to the unit would be reflected on the package and I saw no damage to the package. That means these units were packaged in this condition. Are these ReMan units being sold as New? Scratch n Dent items sold as New? The casings on those units are very tough and it would take quite an impact to create that dent, especially the way it was packed. The package should have a hole in it, a BIG one. And what are the chances that BOTH units have nearly identical damage to them?? 🤔

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead 7 днів тому

      My only issue with that is that we noticed you could push the sides of the box in without damaging the box any more and could contact the side but I agree it's awfully odd that the damage is in the same place on both!

      @@TheOldJarhead In my mind, I'm seeing a warehouse collapse internally. You know, the video of the ONE IDIOT who doesn't belong on a forklift and all of the shelves just crumble and fall like dominoes. The impact of the shelving may be where the dents came from. Not likely, but just a thought. Another thought, they're being stacked from an assembly line and the stack topples over. They just restack them and chalk it up as an Oops Moment on the floor while the damage gets missed by QC. 👍

At a 400.00 UV light for my pond and they busted it by throwing it over my fence. I have everything delivered to the United States post office or UPS. I know alot of ppl use a log that's small so they get one d-log out of it. I have hundreds of white pine that I can get 4 d-logs out of one log. They're over 32" in diameter. Can I do this or should I use the smaller diameter logs? Thanks in advance for any info.

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead 11 днів тому

      You can absolutely do that. Just remember to make them 'Free of Heart Center'. On a 32" SE DIA log you should be able to get 4 D logs that are 8+ inches deep. Like pedals of a flower with the heart in the center and not in the D Logs. Of course, there might be a lot of waste at first but you can mill that down into smaller width lumber. Split the log giving say, 8" from the face of the log to the cut and roll that off, then drop 4 inches take a cut, drop 8 inches and slab that off then 4 more to leave 8 on the bottom. Now take that bottom slab and stand it upright and put the top opposite of it (so face to face and 32" tall) and slice it down in 1 or 2" increments until you are 4 inches above the heart/pith, flip it 180 degrees and do it again until you have 8 inches left. That will be the first two D Logs. Take the center section and take 8 inches off the top, flip 180 and take 8 inches off the bottom. That will leave an 8x8 that you can either mill down or leave. Finally the 4" sections you removed you can mill down as 1x4's, 2x4's, 4x4's or even 1x12's etc...just a matter of deciding how.

    Been in my tobacco packhouse from weekend place to dwelling over 25 years now. Just got molding in the bathroom. Was finished and in the basement for 15 years. If not for the wife, I could live without it. One more time Scout, what was the yellow strip you pulled off the top guide rail on the mill on the first day back on it?

      Morning, yup, the wives drive much for us! ;) As for the yellow strip on the mill, I put that in the last comment and in the video description for you but will answer here again - it is flex duct for networking that I get on Amazon. It works great! Linkage to follow.

    Ever used an attic fan? Open a window or 2 and you'll think it's air conditioned. 😊

      No attic fan but that's what we do with this window fan. Normally it cools down so much at night it's like AC just with the window open.

    What was the yellow strip you pulled off the top guide rail on your mill the other day? Got a deal on an lt35 but no room under a roof on the farm for now, so, it's an outdoor machine for the near term.

    I would like to see you and Mr. Wilson double team a stack of logs and make lumber out of them. As far as that goes, I'd like to just see you guys sitting on the porch talking about whatever. The way that you guys razz each other always makes me smile. I have respect and admiration for you both. The videos are educational and I appreciate the time and effort that it takes to produce quality content. Forested acreage in East Tennessee and a bandmill is my retirement dream.

    I retired a few years back and moved full time to my off grid cabin. After maxing out my 12V system, I’ve now upgraded to 24V and realize I’ll probably end up upgrading to 48V. I would have saved money and effort by just going 48V out of the gate. Recently found your channel and find it quite helpful.
